Safety in Design

SiD sets benchmarking standards through CIC for designers in the built environment

SiD is an initiative that exists to support designers in the built environment.

The main reason for its existence is to provide benchmarked standards for knowledge and competence for designers. It supports this by accrediting [training] that is designed to celebrate and enhance the very best of the professionals in our industry.

SiD also gives information on industry initiatives such as industry led guidance on design for the built environment  [design guides] .

January 2007 update

SiD has been working closely with the Construction Industry Council (CIC)

We are looking at joint projects rather than a whole scale shift of activities and the first one of these is obviously the Design Guides.

Watch this space to check how we will be working and contact us if you would like to be involved in the process of producing or reviewing new guides or if there are areas of guidance you would like us to address.

We will shortly be redesigning the Guides and making them easier to download and reference. Use them to support your training courses for CDM2007.

Case studies SiD had been asked to develop case study material but has discovered a wealth of excellent information already available for you at www.dbp.org.uk . Any additional case studies you have should be sent to the Design Best Practice team at that address.
